12 Months of Tudor News

Posted by on Sunday, November 19, 2006 (PST)

Entered by Jon Bacon on 18.11.2006

To further the History of Tudor Archers, the club press officer will up date the recent happenings of the club at regular intervals, including as much as possible in the way of names, acquisitions and financial matters; for prosperity. This it is hoped will make interesting reading in years to come.

First entry dated 18.11.06
2006 has been a busy year. Having moved to our new home at Sudbury Upper School for the winter season, we had an official opening with Andy Cunnah arranging for Sudbury’s Assistant Mayor to attend. And a great Christmas Fun shoot, in fancy dress. Organized by the Juniors, headed by Verity (Junior Representative), assisted by Jenny, David and Heather.
This was followed by the Tudor Christmas Dinner, organized by Jon Bacon at The Case, Colchester Road, Assington. Which was very well attended, with about 35 of the members and there families having great fun acting there shoe size.

The Valentine shoot in February was extremely successful, despite one or two small problems mostly because the premises were new and had not been used by us for such a big event before. Jo Hodd did a great job as our new tournament secretary, despite the lack of continuity for this post. And Dan Bacon stood in for Stuart who was on a 9 month world trip, handling the computer scoring. He did turn up a little bit late, but we will forgive him that, as he is not even a club member.

As the outdoor season started, a new tournament was created by Jon, the Vice Chairman, to give the field archers a chance to compete. The Wooden Arrow shoot. Shooting at target faces with Field Bows (Not bare target Bows) and wooden arrows. A new trophy, The Dog Wood Trophy, was created with the help of Dick Ansell, out resident wood turner. Every one had great fun and Jenny Baxter was the first person to take home the trophy.

30th April 06. The Glenham Fair fund raiser was very successful, despite rather mixed weather. Raising a significant sum to subsidies the clubs income, with punters paying £2 for 6 arrows, to have a go.
The fenland Fair fund on 26 August, was as usual, our best fund raiser for the year. With lots of members camping over, helping out and attending the BBQ.
9th September. Robert Webb, our chairman, with the help of his wife Emma, organized the first Tudor field shoot on his farm ‘Leys Farm, Clare’. This was fantastic fun incorporating a fun shoot, a picnic, a field shoot, a BBQ and a Clout shoot.
23rd September 06. Steve Arbon has made some very smart cupboards for the club to store its equipment in. These were custom made with racks for the bows and shelves and pull out boxes for the rest of the equipment. These have made it so much easier to keep the clubs equipment organized and in good order.
16th October 06. And it was our AGM. It was agrred that membership should increase for the first time in any ones memory, to £30 for adults and £15 for Juniors. Mike Last stepped down as equipment officer and Robert Webb was reluctantly released from his roll as Chairman. Robert has been a great Chairman for the past two years. Taking over this roll at a time when the club was in quite a bad way, with no permanent home and a declining membership of about 30. With the help of his wife Emma and the rest of the committee, the membership currently stands at about 60. And the only reason he was permitted to stand down, was because he was prepared to stand as equipment officer, and because he has a change in his private life, in the form of twin babies expected in March. Every one at the club is so very pleased for them.
Jon Bacon, the outgoing Vice chairman was again congratulated on obtaining our new fantastic home, and voted in as the new Chairman. Stephen Martin-Halls was voted in as our new Vice Chairman, and the rest of the outgoing committee were voted back in to continue the great job they have been doing. Emma Webb–Secretary. Mike Borley–Treasurer. Jo Hodd–Tournament Secretary. Lesley Gillott–Records Officer. Chris Hunn–Field Captain. Andy Cunnah–Press Officer. Gill Ansell–Child Protection Officer and Verity Butcher–Junior Representative.
7th November 06. The new committee had its first meeting. The usual subject were discussed, the progress of the Valentine shoot (Dick Ansell is making some lovely new trophies), Officers rolls etc. And it was agreed, that as the club grew, we would need one or two new committee members to help spread the load. These being a Membership Secretary (Andy Cunnah) and a Social Secretary (Position to be filled).
